CÙNG BẠN ĐỌC
« NHỊ-THẬP-TỨ HIẾU » là truyện hai-mươi-bốn người con có hiếu ở bên Tàu ngày xưa do cụ Lý văn Phức theo bản chữ Hán của Quách cư Nghiệp đời nhà Nguyễn diễn ra quốc-âm bằng lời ca song-thất lục-bát.
Cụ Lý văn Phức là một nhà văn-học nước ta và là một người hiếu-thuận ít có. Cụ diễn cuốn sách này cốt để làm gia-phạm dạy-dỗ riêng các con-cháu trong nhà cho biết theo gương hiếu-thuận, sau lưu-hành khắp nước, truyền-tụng làm cuốn sách có giá-trị làm khuôn-mẫu cho những kẻ làm con đối với cha mẹ ; đến ngày nay được liệt vào hạng sách giáo-khoa.
Vì cuốn sách này trong có nhiều chỗ dùng điển-tích chữ Hán, lại làm ra đã lâu, mỗi lần sao chép lại và in ra không khỏi có sự sai-lầm, thành ra « tam sao thất bản », nên trừ những bậc tài cao học rộng không kể, còn phần nhiều những người ít học, hay đàn-bà trẻ-con, đọc theo truyền khẩu, cứ theo chỗ sai-lầm của người này mà đọc lại cho người khác nghe, hay là sao chép lại, nên có nhiều chỗ ngớ-ngẩn khó hiểu.
Vì thế, cần phải đính-chính lại những chữ sai-lầm, chú-thích rõ những điển-tích bằng chữ Hán ra quốc âm cho dễ hiểu.
Tôi học ít, tài kém, cứ theo ý-nghĩ hẹp-hòi, kiến-thức sơ-thiển, tham-khảo thêm các bản in cũ mà đính-chính và chú-thích lại, họa may có giúp-đỡ cho những người ít học hay đàn-bà trẻ-con thêm dễ hiểu được phần nào thôi ; không dám tự chắc rằng những chỗ đính-chính ấy đã là đúng, những chỗ chú-thích ấy đã là phải. Về phần hoàn-toàn, mong các vị cao minh chỉ-giáo và phủ-chính lại cho.
Tôi lại đem 24 bài thơ chữ Hán tổng vịnh 24 vị thánh-hiền, sĩ-thứ hiếu-thuận ấy, tạm dịch ra quốc âm, theo lối lục-bát, chẳng quản lời-lẽ nôm-na, tạm hiến độc-giả chư tôn nhàn lãm.

TIỂU-SỬ CỤ LÝ VĂN PHỨC
Cụ Lý văn Phức 李文馥 tự là Lân Chi 鄰芝, hiệu là Khắc Trai 克齋, người làng Hồ-khẩu, huyện Vĩnh-thuận, tỉnh Hà-nội ngày xưa, bây giờ thuộc Đại-lý Hoàn-long, ngoại thành Hà-nội.
Cụ là bậc túc nho, văn-học uyên-bác, đỗ Cử-nhân khoa Kỷ-mão triều Gia-long thứ 18 (1819), làm quan luôn ba triều : Minh-mệnh, Thiệu-trị và Tự-đức. Khoảng năm Tân-sửu, Thiệu-trị nguyên niên (1841), sung chức chánh-sứ sang sứ Tàu, và nhiều lần được cử đi phái-bộ các nước lân-cận với nước ta. Mỗi lần đi đâu về, cụ đều có soạn thành bút ký hay thi-tập.
Năm Canh-dần, Minh-mệnh thứ 11 (1830), đi phái-bộ Tiểu tây Dương, cụ soạn tập « Tây hành kiến văn lục » hay « Kỷ-lược » 西行見聞錄(紀略).
Hai năm Quý-tỵ và Giáp-ngọ, Minh-mệnh thứ 14, 15 (1834, 1835) đi phái-bộ Tân-gia-ba (Singapour), Lữ-tống (Luçon), Quảng-đông, cụ soạn hai tập « Việt-hành ngâm » hoặc « Thi-thảo » 越行吟（詩草） và « Việt-hành tục ngâm » 越行續吟 Khi đi Áo-môn (Macao), cụ soạn tập « Kính hải tục ngâm » 鏡海續吟.
Ngoài ra, cụ còn có mấy bộ bằng quốc âm : « Phụ châm tiện lãm 婦箴便覽 », « Tự-thuật ký 自述記 », « Sứ trình tiện lãm khúc 使程便覽曲 » và bản Nhị-thập-tứ hiếunày.
